Bobcats, Lance Set to Dunk Hunger

Partners Team Up to Provide Second Harvest with Canned Food Items

Dunk Hunger

December 7, 2009 - Bobcats Sports & Entertainment (BSE) President and Chief Operating Officer Fred Whitfield and Lance, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Singer announced today their organizations are teaming up to provide canned food items for Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina this holiday season.

“Hunger is an opponent that we can and should beat, and we’re grateful to have Lance on our team as we work to stock the shelves at Second Harvest Food Bank with enough food to feed our neighbors and fellow citizens this winter,” said Whitfield.

For the past three years a structure composed of more than 25,000 non-perishable food items has been erected in the lobby at Time Warner Cable Arena to raise awareness about the need for donations to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. This year’s structure, weighing more than 16,000 pounds, resembles a giant box of crayons and was built with the help of Lance and architects from Odell Associates to draw attention to the number of children affected in the Charlotte-area by hunger. The structure was completed earlier today in advance of tomorrow night’s Bobcats game against the Denver Nuggets, which marks the start of the canned food drive that lasts through December 28.

“Lance, Inc. is committed to ending hunger in the communities we serve. As one of North America’s leading providers of snack food brands, it is important for us to be part of the solution. We are excited about our partnership with the Charlotte Bobcats and the Second Harvest Food Bank, and we are we are grateful for the opportunity to support the fight against hunger in the Charlotte area, where our company has been headquartered for almost 100 years,” said Singer.

Donations can be made at Time Warner Cable Arena’s four main entrances; Fifth Street, Trade Street, Lowe’s Home Court and the Executive Entrance. Every fan that brings non-perishable food items will receive a voucher good for a discounted ticket at any Bobcats home game in December.

Bobcats Sports & Entertainment operates the Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Time Warner Cable Arena, located in the heart of uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The Bobcats began their sixth season of play in the NBA this October. Season tickets, partial plans and group tickets are available now at bobcats.com or by calling (704) BOBCATS.
